CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas. It is a gaseous automotive fuel consisting mainly of methane and is stored under high pressure to provide practical onboard capacity.
Is CNG safe?+
CNG has useful safety characteristics: it is lighter than air and disperses upward rapidly if released. Safe use still depends on approved components, professional installation, leak testing and periodic inspection.
Which vehicles can be converted to CNG?+
Many spark-ignition petrol vehicles can be converted when a suitable kit and valid vehicle application are available. The exact model, engine, variant and year must be checked before installation.
Can a converted car still run on petrol?+
Yes. A bi-fuel conversion retains the petrol system. The driver can select petrol when required, and the system can also return to petrol automatically when CNG is unavailable.
How much does a CNG conversion cost?+
Cost varies with the vehicle, ECU, injector and reducer specification, cylinder selection, approval requirement and installation scope. Contact an authorised centre for a vehicle-specific quotation.
What range can one CNG fill provide?+
Range depends on cylinder capacity, the actual quantity filled, vehicle efficiency, traffic and driving style. The dashboard change-over switch indicates the approximate gas level.
Will fuel expenses reduce after conversion?+
CNG usually reduces fuel cost per kilometre because of its price and the vehicle's gas mileage. Use the calculator on the home page for an estimate based on your own running.
Will I lose boot space?+
A conventional cylinder occupies part of the boot. The impact depends on body style and cylinder size; hatchbacks generally feel the loss more than sedans or larger vehicles.
Does CNG harm the engine?+
A properly selected, installed and calibrated sequential system should run cleanly and smoothly. Poor fitment, incorrect mixtures or skipped maintenance can cause problems, which is why professional installation and tuning matter.
Is CNG environmentally friendlier?+
CNG generally produces lower particulate matter and certain harmful tailpipe emissions than petrol or diesel, although the real result depends on vehicle condition, calibration and fuel quality.
Does a CNG kit require servicing?+
Yes. Filters, hoses, joints, calibration, leakage and ignition condition should be checked periodically. The cylinder must also follow the inspection and testing schedule required by the applicable rules and authorised testing agencies.
